Before I forget, I wanted to mention the bath bomb project my friend and I did for our holiday gifts for friends. Early in the Fall we were browsing in one of those " gifty" bath stores admiring the "smelly" luxury bath products, and thinking about our holiday gift needs. As we looked closer at the products and ingredients, I said, " You know, we could make these and do the packaging and everything. I'm pretty sure I could find instructions on the Internet." So, I was looked around and f ound some recipes. I gathered supplies and tsoon we were mixing up bath bombs at the studio. It was really pretty easy; we made four batches the first time and we ended up with bath bombs scented with rosemary, bergamot, tangerine and allspice. Then we did it all again and made three batches of unscented ones.
Then we added some other items -- a nice soap bar, a candleholder and candle from Pier 1, and a mug with a hot chocolate package, a tea bag, and a candy cane. The candle holders were on sale and all my mugs were thrift store finds, so the cost was minimal.
It was fun making the bath bombs, even more so because I enjoyed spending the time with my friend. It's much more fun to do this kind of project with another person who is just as into it as you are. I just got a call from one of my friends who just tried the bomb and really liked it, and another friend also reported that it was good. I tried it last week, and I thought it was great, well worth the effort to make. The light oil in the bomb was just enough to act as a moisturizer without being too greasy and without leaving a major oil slick in the tub. So, if any of you have thought about making these, I really recommend that you try it. Easy as pie to do, satisfying because you did it yourself, and it's really a very nice product. I'll bet they are almost as good as the ones from Lush which I have heard everyone praise. Now the gift giving is over and the holidays are winding up. One of my free lance jobs is calling to me, so I have to begin a task for them. I will also be devoting a lot more time to preparing for a workshop which I'll be teaching next June. And, I also have a couple of commissions; and I'd like to make some work for a show in April, if I can manage that, so there will be little idle time left to update regularly.
