Last Sunday we had a family dinner here to celebrate my daughters
birthday.
After dinner we usually play some sort of card game, this time it was
a game called 31. I almost never listen to the instructions because
listening to rules is just boring to me and half the time I dont
absorb it anyway. Ive found that it all becomes clear fairly quickly
anyway as you watch the play.
But
this time it had been along day and I was tired, so I really wasnt
paying much attention to the play as it went round the table and a couple
of times. I kept getting confused about whether I needed to get high
cards or low cards. Did I want the ace to count for 1 or 11? After a
couple of rounds, I was looking pretty much like the ditzy grandma who
just couldnt grasp a simple card game, and I was only still in
the game because of luck. Everyone was making fun of me and my 14 year
old granddaughter, Izzy, was having a grand old time talking about what
a good story this was going to make. We all tease each other, so no
hard feelings.
In spite of myself, I recovered my stride, and pulled myself back from
the edge of senility. At the end the game, there we were, the two final
participants, head to head, Crazy gram and Iz. She, totally certain
of her impending victory. She knocks, and she has 20 points, but...
gramma has 21.
Gramma
wins!
Great
ending for the story, Iz.
